Our history
In 1986 Dr. Ed Mulhern came to Townshend, VT to practice Family Medicine at Grace Cottage Hospital. A year later he founded his own practice across the street in the building that is now Hearthstone Primary Care. Dr. Mulhern saw patients for more than thirty years in this office.
In 2017, Dr. Jesper Brickley, who had been practicing at Grace Cottage Hospital, and Dr. Mulhern formed the first direct primary care practice in southern Vermont, which they named Hearthstone. In 2018, the Brattleboro office was opened.
After Dr. Mulhern's retirement in 2020, Dr. Alexandra Van Dyck joined Dr. Brickley under Hearthstone's roof.
Dr. Brickley and Dr. Van Dyck each run their own primary care practice, unique to each other, but sharing the goal of providing personal and accessible care.
A word on our name
Traditionally the hearth has been the focus of a home, where comfort and sustenance can be found. We aim to be a source of comfort and sustenance to you.
